Ontario reports 610 new COVID-19 cases on Monday

Ontario reported 610new cases of COVID-19 and two more deaths related to the illness on Monday.

The 7-day rolling average now stands at 711

Ontario reported 610new cases of COVID-19 and two more deaths related to the illness on Monday.

Of the reportedcases today with a known vaccination status:

  • 362, or 59.3per cent, were found in people who areunvaccinated.

  • 43, or sevenper cent, had a single dose.

  • 152, or 24.9 per cent, had two doses.

The province's raw data on the vaccination status of cases does not include breakdowns by age. That, and the fact that the populations of vaccinated and unvaccinated people in Ontario differ greatly by both size and demographics, are important caveats to note.

The additional cases reported Monday include 126in Toronto, 100in Peel, 71in York, 54 in Ottawa, 29in Windsor, 23 in Hamilton, 18in London and 19in Halton Region.

The seven-day rolling average now stands at 711.

The Ministry of Health says that more than 10 per cent of hospitals did not submit data to the daily report and that it anticipates the number of hospitalized patients will increase Tuesday.

De Villa asks provinceto makevaccinemandatory for students

In a new report to Toronto's Board of Health, the city's Medical Officer of Health Dr. Eileen de Villa has asked the Ontario government to add COVID-19 vaccines to the list of nine mandatory vaccines for students under the Immunization of School Pupils Act.

The Board of Health will now put forward the recommendation at its Sept. 27 meeting.

It comes two weeks after the chair of the Toronto District School Board, Alexander Brown, requested the Ontario government add the COVID-19 vaccine to the list of required vaccinations in a letteraddressed to de Villa, Education Minister Stephen Lecce andOntario's Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore.

Here are some other key pandemic indicators and figures from theMinistry of Health's daily provincial update:

Tests completed in the last 24 hours: 23,864.

Provincewide test positivity rate: 2.7per cent.

Active cases: 6,376.

Patients in ICU with COVID-related illnesses: 177; 123needed a ventilator to breathe.

Deaths: Two, pushing the official toll to 9,655.

Vaccinations:21,404,362 doses have been administered to date. Nearly 85.1 per cent of Ontarians aged 12 years or older have now received at least one dose of a vaccine, while 79.1per cent have received two doses.
