Charges laid in traffic death of York region officer

Charges have been laid against a pickup driver after a collision that claimed the life of a senior York regional police officer.

Charges have been laid against a pickup driver after a collision that claimed the life of a senior York regional police officer.

Supt. Mark Grant, 54, died, and his fiancee, Debra Neal, 54, suffered serious injuries in the crash near Uxbridge, just north of Toronto.

The 32-year veteran of the York force was headed back from a police conference Oct. 27 when his car was involved in a collision with a pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup suffered minor injuries.

Police announced Wednesday that George Woodruff, 76, of Brechin, Ont., is charged with careless driving and failing to stop for a stop sign under the Highway Traffic Act.
