Woman, 2 children killed in Brampton crash that injured 3 others

A woman, girl and boywere killed in a crash between an SUV and a sports car on Saturday night in Brampton that also injured three others, Peel police say.

The woman killed was 47, while the girl was 12 and the boy was 7, Peel Regional Police said in a news release on Sunday. All three were in the SUV and were from Woodbridge.

Agirl, 12, also of Woodbridge, was also in the SUV and was injured in the crash.

Police said the vehicles collidedon Highway 50 in the area of Countryside Driveshortly after 9 p.m., but police have not said in which direction the vehicles were travelling.

"It's all part of the investigation,"Const.AkhilMooken, spokesperson for Peel police, told CBCToronto on Sunday.

The other two people injured were a man, 45, of Caledon, and a woman, 39, of Toronto. Both of them were in the sports car, according to police.

The three injuredwere taken to local hospitals in non-life-threatening condition. At the time, paramedics said the three injuredwere in stable condition.

Police have not released the names of the dead, saying the families of the people involved have asked for privacy as they mourn their loved ones.

Mooken said police are also not releasing the relationships of the people involved to protect privacy.

Police appealfor witnesses

The cause of the crash has yet to bedetermined, and Mookensaid police are appealing for witnesses.

Anyone who may have seenthe crash, has dashboard camerafootageor may have information about the actions of the drivers just before the crashis urged to call investigators.

At the scene on Saturday night, police said there is no evidence to suggest alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Peel police's major collisions bureau is investigating, and the unit is expected to consider whether speed androad conditions played a role.

Roads in the area have been reopened after they were closed for hours to allow officers to investigate.
