Police ID man killed on West Humber Trail as Rampreet Singh

Toronto police have identified a homeless man found dead on the West Humber Trail in Etobicoke as Rampreet Singh.

Singh, who also went by the name Peter, had obvious signs of trauma when his lifeless body was discovered by a jogger on Monday morning, police said in a news release. They did not elaborate on the nature of his injuries. Singh was in his late 30s, police added.

Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation and they are now trying to piece together what may have happened before Singh was found shortly after 7:00 a.m.

The area, near the Highway 27 bridge just south of Humber College Boulevard, is frequented by pedestrians and cyclists, and investigators want to know if anyone saw Singh alive in the early morning hours Monday.

A command post was set up at the scene Tuesday morning as investigators tried to gather more information.

Singh had been living beneath the bridge in recent months, police said.

Speaking to reporters from the scene yesterday, Det. Stephen Henkelsaid there were parties taking place in the park over the long weekend.

Anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual between midnight and 7 a.m. Monday is asked to contact the homicide squad immediately.
