Police are asking for the public's help after a burned and unidentified body was found in a North York park.

Police are asking for the public's help after a burned and unidentified body was found in a North York park.

Investigators say the grisly discoverywas found in a fire pit in Northwood Park,nearSheppardAvenue West and Sentinel Road, at about 10 a.m. Saturday.

The remains are those of a white or light-skinned man, between the ages of 20and 35, with short black hair, according toDet. Shannon Dawson.

That description does not match anyone who has been reported missing, she said.

"If you can think of anyone friends, family or coworkers who you haven't seen since Friday and haven't been able to get in contact with we're working on identifying the deceased," Dawson said.

Investigators said there was "evidence of a recent fire" in the pit.

Police are also asking anyone in the area who might have seen anything unusual between Friday night and Saturday morning to contact the homicide unit at 416-808-7400.

The death is Toronto's23rd homicide of the year.
