They are a Canadian tradition, and the familiar fishing lures have not changed much since their inception, some 100 years ago. Our Outdoor Columnist Gord Ellis tells us the history of the William's Spoons.

The Williams lure company was founded by a pair of brothers who owned a gold refinery in 1916. Their reflective gold and silver lures proved to be very successful with anglers fishing for lake trout, in particular.

The designs ofWilliams lures haven't changed much over the years, said company spokesperson Mark Stiffel. And, they are 100 per cent Canadian-made.

"We're very proud of that," Stiffel told Superior Morning outdoor columnist GordEllis.

"We wanted to control our own destiny, and our own quality, and I'm very, very glad that we did."
