Thunder Bay Border Cats snapped up by Florida's Superior Baseball Club

The Thunder Bay Border Cats have been sold.

Theloonie'slowvalue was the primary reason for the sale, outgoing owner Brad Jorgenson said. Theteam's revenues are in Canadian dollars and most of the expenses are in U.S. dollars.

He called the decision to sell the Northwoods League baseball teama "business decision, it's not one that was done from the heart."

The Northwoods League isa summer development league for college baseball players. The Thunder BayBorder Cats are theonly team in the league located north of the border.

"We have the highest bus bill in the league, there's no two ways about that," Jorgenson told CBC News.

"Even though the price of gas has come down a little bit, when you're buying it with Canadian funds, those costs are obviously put through the bus company and it affects everybody."

The league announced that Superior Baseball Club,a Florida-based corporation, has purchased the team.

In a league press release, the new owners said they'd hold a news conference in the city in March "to introduce themselves to the Thunder Bay community."

Despite choosing to sell the team, Jorgenson said there's been plenty of good memories.

"Obviously the championship we won in our first year, then the all-star game following that, the Stanley Cup coming here ...just overall the great experiences we've had."

Jorgenson confirmed the cats will stay in Thunder Bay for the 2016 season.

"It's been fabulous," he said.

"We've been fortunate enough, from the fans, from the corporate sponsors, and the host families, it's been an incredible experience for us and very fortunate for us to be able to be involved in all of that."
