SIU investigating man's death after standoff at Thunder Bay motel

The province's Special Investigations Unit is now asking the public for help as they investigate a man's death following a standoff in Thunder Bay on Tuesday night.

The province's Special Investigations Unit is now asking the public for help as they investigate a man's death following a standoff in Thunder Bay on Tuesday night.

Five investigators arrived yesterday to look into the death of a 33-year-old man inside a room at the Kingsway Inn.

The SIU said at about 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday night Thunder Bay Police were called about a man in a room and several officers arrived at the motel and tried to engage him.

On Wednesday morning, at about 7:00 a.m., officers found the man in the room without vital signs. Hewas then taken by ambulancetothe Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centrewhere he was pronounced dead.

The SIU is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.

The SIU is an arms length agency thatinvestigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
