Funeral for Mishkeegogamang fire victims held today

A funeral was held Tuesday in Mishkeegogamang First Nation for the four victims of a recent house fire.

A funeral was held today in Mishkeegogamang First Nation for the four victims of a recent house fire.

Joyce Wassaykeesic, 30, her daughters Serenity, 6, and Kira-Lyn, 3, as well as her nephew Nathan Wassaykeesic, 21, were killed in the February 13th fire.

The funeral took place at noon at the Full Gospel Church in Mishkeegogamang.

Mishkeegogamang Chief Connie Gray-McKay thanked the crisis teams from Cat Lake, Slate Falls and Eabametoong First Nations for their efforts in the community in the days after the fire.

Gray-McKay told CBC News the teams have been cooking, chopping wood and removing snow for residents of the communityaffected by the fire.

"Whatever is needed, they did without question," she said. Gray-McKay also thanked everyone who sent prayers and condolences to the community.
