Cyclists killed on Trans-Canada Highway identified

Two cyclists on a cross-Canada trip were killed Tuesday afternoon on Highway 11/17 near Red Rock.

Police have identified them as 65 year old Robert Booth and 69 year old Irene Booth from the Township of North Glengarry, Ontario.

OPPreport a group of 25 cyclists, heading across the country from Vancouver, were passing through the area around 3 p.m. An eastbound pickup truck struck two of the cyclists. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup also hit two westbound vehicles, another pickup with a cargo trailer and a transport truck.

Two people in the eastbound pickup--a man and woman from Austin, Texas--and the male driver and male passenger in the tractor-trailer, were sent to hospital with injuries.

Police said they arecontinuing their investigation.
