City to spend $22M on road construction and repairs for sewer and water lines

Thunder Bay is making plans to spend $22 million on road construction and repairs for sewer and water lines this year a 30 percent increase compared to other years.

The rise in road repairs means drivers need to start planning ahead when it comes to getting around the city, says Brian Newman, project engineer with the city.

"I would suggest, obviously, watching posted detours and signage in that respect," he said. "[If there is construction on] a certain route to get to work or wherever you have to go try to take those detours or look for alternate routes ahead of time."

Newman said some of the biggest areas of concern for motorists are on Algoma Street between John and Cornwall Streets.

Montreal Street will soon undergo total road restoration, he added.
