Spence has been on a hunger strike for five weeks, consuming only fish broth and tea. She wants a meeting that would bring together both the Prime Minister and Governor General with First Nations leaders.

The grand council chief of the Anishinabek Nation, which represents a number of communities in the northeast, said it's time for her to go home.

"We've asked Regional Chief Stan Beardy to communicate to maybe people from her own community or elders to ask her to come home," he said.

Madahbee said he supported Spence when she turned down a chance to meet with the Prime Minister last Friday, but addedshe has made her point and should stop before she damages her health.
