Tax scam hitting inboxes again: Sudbury police

As income tax season begins again, GreaterSudbury police are warning of aninternet scam that targets vulnerable people.

Police said Tuesday that some people have reportedreceivingan emailadvising them they are entitled to a specific tax refund amount.

Police said in some cases, the emails have Canada Revenue Agency logos or internet links that appear to be official.

Karen Upper of Burk's Falls said she received an official lookingemail last week, and clicked on the link.

"At first, yes, 'cause it had the heading of the government on it and everything else," she said.

"[But] just the way the [sender's]name was though it kind of rang something in my grey matter that it wasn't right."

According to police, the Canada Revenue Agency does not ask for public information by way of email. People are advised to delete suspicious emails and not to click on unverified links.

In their press release, policealso said, "anyone responsible for the care of seniors or vulnerable adults is urged to share this information in order to preventvictimization."
