Sudbury Rainbow Mall to file structural engineering report

A deadline is approaching for the Rainbow Centre mall in Sudbury to submit a structural report in the wake of a water leak complaint received by the Ministry of Labour last year.

A deadline is approaching for the Rainbow Centre mall in Sudbury to submit a structural report in the wake of a water leak complaint received by the Ministry of Labour last year.

Ministry of Labour spokesperson Matt Blajer said the problem that prompted the complaint was fixed, but the inspection brought up other issues.

"During our inspection, we were made aware of a report that had been done in 2011. This report assessed every part of the building, but didn't address the issue of structural stability," he said.

"While we were there, we also found a 2001 engineering report which identified structural issues."

Blajer said there are no immediate concerns about safety at the Rainbow Centre, but an engineering inspection was ordered to ensure the problems raised in the 2001 report have been addressed.

The Rainbow Centre has until Sept. 16 to provide the new report.
