Merging the past and present on Durham Street in Sudbury, Ont.

Radio Canada video producerYvon Theriaultloves to look at historical images within a modern-day context. When he has spare time which is not often he gets to indulge his passion using his trusty cameras and video editing software.

He wrote the following for CBC News, to go along with his latest video compilation:

"Imagine you are standing on Durham Street looking north towards the Elm Street intersection.

The original image, provided by the City of Greater Sudbury heritage image collection,dates from the late 1930s or 1940s.

Note the advertising painted on the some of the buildings.There are still traces of these ads to be seen in Sudbury but they are slowly fading or being covered.

Watch as the building on the corner is transformed into the present-day Elm News.There used to be train tracks passing diagonally by this building.

Observe how the bell towers of Christ the King Church in the background remain largely unchanged."
