Fire overnight at now-vacant school in Elliot Lake, Ont.

A former school in Elliot, Lake, Ont., was on fire Tuesday night, the citys fire department said.

A former school in Elliot, Lake, Ont., about 90 minutes west of Sudbury, was on fire Tuesday night, the city's fire department said.

In a news release, Elliot Lake Fire Chief John Thomas said fire crews responded to a call at around 10:21 p.m. and found that a vacant building on Roman Avenue was on fire.

Thomas said the fire crew reported heavy smoke and flames when they arrived at the scene.

"Estimated damage is unknown at this time," he wrote.

"Fire crew is on scene and will be conducting an investigation."
