Fabio Belli honoured at Sudbury Wolves game fundraiser

Saturdays Sudbury Wolves hockey game was a poignant one for many as the team and fans took a moment to remember a city councillor who died suddenly in April.

Fabio Belli was a big supporter of the team from billeting players to running the souvenir shop at the arena.

It's really all about remembering Fabio, because when he did pass, our season had already ended and we really haven't had the opportunity to pay tribute to him and his family for all that he has done, said Blaine Smith, the president and general manager for the Sudbury Wolves.

Saturday's game was also a fundraiser. Proceeds from the 50/50 draw, a silent auction, and some ticket sales went to an education fund for Belli's two young daughters.

Smith called Belli a No. 1 fan for the team and said he did what he could to help as a city councillor as well.

He pushed for the new arena, and that is certainly something that is still on the plate, so I think his legacy will continue, he said.

We don't want anyone to forget what he has done for the Sudbury Wolves.
