A chronology of events related to the 2012 collapse of the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake, Ont.

1976: Algoma Central Properties asks architect James Keywan to design new mall.

1979: Construction starts on $12-million Algo Centre Mall with John Kadlec as structural engineer.

1980: First tenants occupy completed mall. Leaking soon occurs.

June 1999: Mall sold to Elliot Lake Retirement Living.

August 2005: Bob Nazarian, under name Eastwood Mall Inc., buys the mall for $6.2 million.

December 2009: Fireproofing applied to steel beam with weld that ultimately failed, but rust not reported.

March 2012: Mall management pleads guilty to two fire-code infractions. Fined $5,000.

April 2012: Inspection report by engineer Bob Wood sounds no structural alarm.

June 23, 2012: Rooftop garage caves in, killing Lucie Aylwin, 37, Doloris Perizzolo, 74, and injuring several other people.

June 24, 2012: Heavy Urban Search and Rescue Team arrives from Toronto.

June 25, 2012: Searchers call off rescue effort hours after detecting signs of life in rubble. It resumed after then-Ontario premier Dalton McGuinty phoned search team commander Bill Neadles.

June 27, 2012: Bodies of the two victims are recovered.

July 20, 2012: Province announces inquiry into the tragedy under Commissioner Paul Belanger.

March 4, 2013: Public inquiry begins hearings.

Oct. 10, 2013: Former premier Dalton McGuinty is final witness.

Oct. 15, 2014: Commissioner Paul Belanger releases final report.
