Health Sciences North CEO Denis Roy to retire

Denis Roy, Health Sciences Norths president and CEO, will be retiring in June, 2017, HSNs board of directors announced today.

Denis Roy, Health Sciences North's president and CEO, will be retiring in June, 2017, HSN's board of directors announced today.

Roy was hired in November, 2009, replacing Dr. Vickie Kaminski.

Under Roy's tenure, the former Sudbury Regional Hospital changed its name to "Health Sciences North," to reflect the centre's expanding role in research and medical training.

Nicole Everest, the board's chair, said in a press release that Roy's leadership lead to a "true transformation at HSN."

"We are now a globally recognized academic health sciences centre with a focus oninnovation, patient-centredness and organizational excellence," Everest said.

With Roy's retirement, a recruitment process for a new CEO will be initiated later this month, the board said.A committee will be created to lead the search process.The position carries a dual CEO role forHSN and the HSN Research Institute.

Roy said that now is a good time for a change at HSN, becausethe centre hasa strong leadership team in place.

As for his time in the Nickel City, Roy said in a press release he was proud of the team he worked with.

"I have been inspired by the people of the north," Roy said, "they have tenacity, ingenuity and a boldness that leads to big wins for the north.
