The urgent call for blood donors continues.

A spokesperson for Canadian Blood Services said the service has not been this low on donor blood since 2008.

Pamela Mullins saidthe Sudbury office is looking at extending its hours to help mitigate the situation.

We are looking to increase our bed [numbers], specifically in Sudbury. We have some capacity to do [that] there.

Sudbury is home to the national call centre for the service.

Mullins noted that staff members are working flat-out to schedule appointments.

I know people get phone calls 100 times a day from various organizations, so our customer service representatives are really emphasizing the need on how important it is to come in, she said.

All blood types are needed, Mullins added, but there's a particular need for O and A.
