Those using the Greater Sudbury Airport have some extra colour in their lives a 14.3-metre wide mural now greets travellers coming in to and out of the busy airport.

The artwork, created by Cambrian College design students, depicts the physical and emotional connections that come from flying.

"I think when we're leaving or we're moving on to a new chapter in our lives, there's a lot of emotions," said Danielle Provencher, one of the students who worked on the project.

She said everyone can relate to the mural's theme of journeying through life.

"There's excitement, there's sadness, there's nostalgia. It can be very bittersweet to leave someone and yet, it's also very exciting to meet new connections."

195-hours to paint

The project took about 195-hours to collectively paint, according to Cambrian College creative design professorJohanna Westby.

"Our students work on it throughout the year."

She said it's very time-intensive to co-ordinate the students, who are part of the creation.

This is the fifth mural completed by Cambrian students.

Other murals can be seen at the YMCA of Sudbury, Science North, Health Sciences North, and at Cambrian College.
