Adrienne Clarkson honoured by Thorneloe University

Former Governor General of Canada Adrienne Clarkson was in Sudbury Oct. 12 to officially open St. Mark's Chapel on the Thorneloe University campus and to receive an honorary doctorate of letters.

Former Governor General of Canada Adrienne Clarkson was in Sudbury Oct. 12 to officially open St. Mark's Chapel on the Thorneloe University campus.

The chapel was built in 1968 and didn't have indoor plumbing.

After a summer of renovations, that has changed.

"[A] new wheelchair ramp and new stairs go down into the entranceway and we have new doors and windows," said Robert Derrenbacker, president of Thornloe University.

"Now people with mobility issues can actually get into the chapel."

Clarkson will be receiving an honourary doctorate from the university tonight.

Thorneloe University is a federated partner of Laurentian University and is home to the departments of Classical Studies, Religious Studies, Theatre Arts and Womens Studies. Thorneloe works collaboratively with Laurentian in the Bachelor of Fine Arts Program and in the M.A. in Humanities Program.
