Work continues on North Commuter Parkway, Traffic Bridge projects

It's been almost one year since the Bridging to Tomorrow project got underway, and the city is happy with its progress.

On the Traffic Bridge, crews are finishing a berm on the north side of the river so workers can start building the bridge's two north piers. On the south side of the bridge, the first new span of the bridge has already been completed.

Demolition of the final original span of the Traffic Bridge will start sometime mid-month.

Meanwhile, work is continuing to dig in-river piers to help build the bridge on the North Commuter Parkway.

"This part of the project involves more than bridge construction," said director of major projects Dan Willems in a press release. "It also involves storm sewer installation as well as several kilometers of earthworks for the roads connecting to the new bridge."

Both bridges should be open in 2018.
