Youth on trial in Saskatoon for 1st-degree murder in 2019 death of Winston Littlecrow

Saskatoon's 16th and final homicide of 2019 is now the focus of a first-degree murder trial that began on Monday.

A 19-year-old man is accused of murdering 35-year-old Winston Littlecrow. The accused was 17 years old at the time of his arrest and therefore can't be named under Canada'sYouth Criminal Justice Act.

Littlecrow was found shot on the 200 block of Avenue XNorth, in the city's Mount Royal neighbourhood,on the morning of Dec. 7, 2019, after officers were told of gunfire,police said at the time. Littlecrow was taken to the hospital but died there of his injuries.

The accused was arrested five days later thanks to the help of the Saskatoon Police Service's guns and gangs unit, according to the police release. A house on the 300 block of Avenue H S. was then searched.

Gang colours and the Terror Squad gangwere the subject of some of the Crown's questioning of witnesses on Tuesday. Court heard two witnesses saythey werelivingat a home on the 200 block of Avenue X N. at the time of Littlecrow's death.

Witnesses were also asked about 22-year-oldEiryn Ashlee Straightnosewho, earlier this year, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in Littlecrow's death.

The 19-year-old-man's trial continues on Wednesday.
