Weekend record-breaking natural gas consumption in Sask.

As the temperatures dipped across Saskatchewan, the natural gas consumption went up.

SaskEnergy said the province set a new record for daily natural gas consumption over the weekend.

In a 24-hour period from Saturday to Sunday, TransGas, a subsidiary of SaskEnergy, delivered 1.29 PetaJoules of natural gas.

A PetaJoule is a unit of measurement equivalent to one million GigaJoules of natural gas. SaskEnergy said an average home in the provinces uses about 105 GigaJoules of natural gas annually.

Since the previous record-setting day set just over a year ago, SaskEnergy said it added more than5,000 new customers including homes, business, and industry.
