Saskatoon Pride Festival staff and volunteers will repaint a rainbow crosswalk that was defaced by black tire marks on Monday.

The marks appeared two days after the crosswalk at23rd Street and Third Avenue N. was painted on the weekend in commemoration of the Saskatoon Pride Festival.

Representatives from the Pride Festival called the marks a "slap in the face" and made a complaint to police after noticing a backlash on social media, including comments about defacing the rainbow crosswalk with tire marks.

While Saskatoon police called the marks disappointing, a representative said officers would not be following up on the social media comments at this point.

Police asked anyone with information about the event to come forward with information.

The City of Saskatoon will barricade the area between 7 and 9 p.m. while the crosswalk is repainted.
