A veterinary clinic in Lumsden, Sask., is looking for a family to take in a dog that's going under the knife to fix a dislocated hip.

Last week, a family in Saskatchewan came home to find their house burglarizedand their dog Dieselmissing.

They found him the next day injured and rushed him to TM'z Veterinary Clinicwhere x-rays showed Diesel had a dislocated hip.

Dr. Tanya Marshall suspects Diesel may have been hit by a car, leaving the petin severe pain. She laid out a number of options for surgery on Diesel. However, the family couldn't afford any of them.

"So then the option of euthanasia was discussed, because you can't leave a hip dislocated because it's painful for the dog," Marshall told CBC."They took 24 hours to discuss it and they came in for euthanasia."

Marshall saysthe staff really bonded to the "super-friendly" pooch and didn't want to have to put him down.

"It was decided by myself to present to the client whether they would be interested in just surrendering the dog and then we could see if we could come up with some funds and also to re-home him if we could," she said.

The family agreed to give the dog a chance, even though it meant saying goodbye.

But finding a family for Diesel isn't an easy task, Marshall said, adding the family they choose will depend on the type of procedure the veterinary clinic performs on Diesel.

"With all the options, there's different rehabs that are required so we want to do what fits best with the family he's going to go with," she said.

Marshall said if anyone wants to help find Diesel a home, or help pay for surgery, they can phone the clinic at 306-731-3266
