Taser fails, but Saskatoon police track suspect down

Police in Saskatoon had a challenging arrest this morning as they attempted but failed to subdue an uncooperative suspect with a Taser.

Someone called police around 7:30 a.m. CST to complain about an intoxicated man in the 10 block of Summers Place in the College Park neighbourhood on Saskatoon's east side, according to a news release.

When officersarrived, the 26-year-old suspect became combative and assaulted an officer, the release said. Police triedto use a conducted energy weapon, or Taser, to subdue the man but the attempt failed.Police said the suspect then ran off.

Officers were able to track the suspect with the help of a police dog to the nearby 100 block of Mount Allison Crescent. They found him attempting to hide behind a parked car, the release said. He was arrested peacefully.

The man is now facing charges of assault, break and enter, and possession of methamphetamine and marijuana.

Police said there were no injuries.

The use of the Taser will be reviewed, according to policy.
