Saskatoon police investigating death of 68-year-old man as suspicious

Neighbours say the police arrived in clusters on Saturday afternoon, one and then three and then sevencruisers on the quiet street outside 2224 St. Charles Avenue.

"That's a big presence for this neighbourhood," said a tenant who asked not to be named.

People who live in the building say they knew something serious was up before the body of the 68-year-old man from the third floor was removed in a bag. The tenant says police with dogs were terse when asked what they were searching for on the property.

"They said,"We'll know when we find it.' "

In a news release, police said they are investigating the death of a man in Saskatoon's Exhibition Park neighbourhood. They describe it as suspicious.

Officers wentto theapartmenton St. Charles Avenue around 1:20 p.m. CST on Saturday to check on the welfare of a resident.

Inside, they found the body of a 68-year-old man.

The major crimes unit and the forensic identification section are investigating the death with theSaskatchewan Coroner Services.

The tenant who spoke with CBC described his68-year-old neighbour as a slight, easygoing retired man who had a quick smile and who occasionally bummed cigarettes when they passed.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
