Saskatoon's mayor sayshe'shopeful about the proposed deal Saskatoon Transit workers will voteon when the unionmeetsTuesday.

On Friday, the City of Saskatoon and the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 615both announced that the two sides had emerged from the bargaining table with a tentative agreement.

"I think that it's a very fair offer, and we've gone a long way down the road with the transit union and tried to come up with a solution that everybody can live with," Charlie Clark told CBC News on Sunday.

The union said that a special meeting will be held Tuesday night where members will vote whether or not to accept the agreement.

If workers approve the deal, it would then go to city council for final approval.

With city council's final meeting scheduled for Monday the night before the members' vote Clark said he thought if the deal wasapproved by the workers, it would become a priority for council to hold a special meeting to ratify it before the new year.

"So everyone can go into the Christmas season more settled and know what to expect."

Clark said it's important for the city's new council to be able to work with the union, as he said there are important steps that need to be taken to start improving transit services in the city.

Workers haven't had a collective bargaining agreement in place since the last one expired in 2012.

Friday's news release from the city said that job action taken by transit employees would continue until a deal is ratified.
