Saskatoon pumped for Canadian Country Music Week

Country lovers are in for a treat this week in Saskatoon, as some of the best and brightest stars in the industry have arrived for Country Music Week.

Country music lovers are in for a treat this week in Saskatoon, as some of the best and brightest stars in the industry have arrived for Country Music Week.

Events got underway with a Songwriters Series and Discovery Showcase on Thursday night, but there's still tons of country fun to be had.

Event chair Dawn Woroniuk told CBC News Saskatchewan that securing the event is a boon for the city.

"It's huge," she said. "There are a lot of cities that vie to host this fabulous event, and we're just so thrilled that they've decided to come back here again."

On Friday night, a CCMA Legends Show at TCU Place will pair country veterans like Ian Tyson and Paul Brandt with newcomers like Deric Ruttan and The Washboard Union.

As well, the CCMA Rock'n Country Cabaret at Prairieland Park will feature the Johner Brothers, Brody Siebert and Tenille Arts.

On Saturday, fans will be able to see their favourite stars for free at Prairieland Park at SiriusXM FanFest. Featured artists include Gord Bamford, Aaron Pritchett and Jess Moskaluke.

The event wraps up on Sunday with the Canadian Country Music Awards show at SaskTel Centre. The star-studded event will be broadcast on CBC Television and will feature performances by Blake Shelton,Jim Cuddy and Meghan Patrick.

The awards show starts at 5 p.m. CST with a green carpet event at 2:45 p.m.

Saskatoon Transit will offer shuttle buses to the event on Sunday.
