Saskatoon council to consider changes to Traffic Bridge design

The Traffic Bridge is back on the city council agenda.

On Monday, council will be asked to consider loosening the design requirements on the new Traffic Bridge. It has to do with the number of spans and piers.

The way it stands now, earlier decisions by council restricted the number of spans to five and stipulated that any new piers be within ten metres of the existing supports.

But work by the administration suggests that the project could save $10 to $15 million by allowing some flexibility in those requirements.

The original bridge was built in 1907. It was shut down in 2010 because of safety concerns.
