Sharp-eyed police plane spotter helps nab armed robbery suspects

Two Saskatoon teens are facing a variety of robbery charges after a spotter in the city's police plane watched a confrontation unfold from afar.

The incident occurredon the 1600 block of 22ndStreet mid-afternoon Tuesday.

"The SPSAir Support Unit was flying above at the time, and informed patrol officers that a male and female had been pointing a firearm at another male on the front lawn of a multi-unit dwelling," police said in a news release.

The man told told police who arrived on the ground that he'd been robbed and assaulted in a suite.

The suspects, a 16-year-old boyand 18-year-old woman, had taken off on foot. They were spotted a short distance away.

"The male suspect began discarding items when officers made contact with him. One item was a loaded, sawed-off rifle concealed in a jacket," the release said.

The pairare facing charges related to weapons, break and enter and robbery, and assault.
