A Regina rapper and street artist known as Def 3 has added amural of Prince to his list of artworks.

Last week Danny Fernandez heard about the death of Prince while in Denver, Colorado, as he stood in front of the trailer of a taco food truck, which he had been commissioned to paint.

"I was literally standing in front of a wall thinking about what I should paint and then this news hit me and it just happened," Fernandez told CBC News. "It wasn't really planned."

Fernandez said he worked forfive hours on the day he heard the news, then came back the next day to touch up the mural, which features a classic Prince profile.

Hundreds of people stopped to admire the Prince mural on a Denver taco truck, sharing stories of the artists' well-known after-party shows and his influence on music especially during the 1980s. (Danny Fernandez)

"I like the expression of the photo, that's the Prince that I think of when I think of him," Fernandez said.

Upon completion, Fernandez saidthe taco truck owners were speechless and thankful for his mural and he also met with other fans who he says appreciated the artwork.

"Prince did a lot of after-party shows after [his concerts] so there were a lot of people who said 'I was at this after party and he played for like three hours,'and that was an ongoing theme so I think he did that a lot," Fernandez said, adding a lot of people walking by stopped to take a photo with the mural.

Fernandez's work went viral in 2014 after he painted a mural of the late Robin Williams.

He said he loves to paint murals of interesting people and both Williams and Prince definitely fit the criteria in his view.

"I try and show respect where it's due," he said.
