A 44-year-old man is in custody this morning after a brief police pursuit ended with a half-ton truck smashing into a power pole and tree.

It happened just after midnight Monday morning on the 900 block of Heritage Crescent.

In a news release, police say officers tried to stop a 2007 GMC Sierra near the intersection of Briarwood Road and Beechdale Crescent when the plates and the truck didn't match.

The driver bolted and police called off the chase because of the high speeds.

The truck didn't make it far. It didn't make the curve on Heritage Crescent, jumping the curb and smashing into a tree and power pole.

The driver and passenger took off on foot.

A police dog tracked down one suspect to the 200 block of BrudellRoad. A second suspect got away.

A 44-year-old man is charged with possession of stolen property, having break-and-enter tools and breaching court conditions.
