No decision on starting quarterback after 'lethargic' Roughriders practice

Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Chris Jones said this week's training camp in Saskatoon was not shaping up to end on a high note.

"It was probably our worst day so far," he said after practice on Friday. "It seemed very lethargic, didn't seem nearly as fast as what we had the last few days."

"It was just one of those days," he continued."You usually have it Day 3 or Day 4. We're here at Day 6 and they finally flattened out a little bit. We'll come back and keep pushing them."

Jones said he has not made up his mind about a starting quarterback this season.

Both Vince Young and Kevin Glennare seen as candidates for the position.

"He's been up and down," said Jones of Young. "Today wasn't necessarily as good as yesterday."

Young, in his own post-practice interview, was deferential towards the coach.

"I really feel like Coach Jones is doing a good job of letting us be men, letting us have fun together as a team," he said. "And he also knows what he wants in the team."

Asked for his own assessment of how he did this week, Young said, "I'm not to the point of grading myself right now."

Glenn also had kind words for the coach.

"Coach Jones does a good job of, how should I put it, making sure that he keeps the guys fresh," he said. "With the mandatory ice bags after practice and making sure we come out fresh the next morning with our legs."

The team also announced Friday that it had re-signed running back Anthony Allen.

"He's a guy that's got experience," said Jones. "He averages five yards a carry. He's got some good size, he doesn't mind blocking. And from our background that I've known him, he's a tremendous character guy."

The first mock practice game of the training camp will take place some time after 4 p.m. Saturday at Saskatoon's Gordie Howe Sports Complex.
