Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence in Saskatoon gets another $4.5M from feds

The $37.5-million facility announced in 2015, will conduct research to improve beef quality, food safety, productivity and environmental sustainability.

$37.5-million centre expected to be completed some time in 2018

The federal government is kicking up another $4.47 million toward a new research centre at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon.

The $37.5-million Livestock and Forage Centre of Excellence, announced in 2015, will conduct researchto improvebeef quality, food safety, productivityand environmental sustainability.

"The centre will connect research expertise and producer experience, creating a hub of information and collaboration to benefit all aspects of livestock research, education and production," said David Lametti, theparliamentary secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.

The federal and provincial governments had already announced $10 million for the centre, with the university and industry groups footing the restof the bill.

The centre will be located in two buildings on university land near Saskatoon.

It's expected to be competed some time next year.
