Homeless Regina group preparing to camp out for winter

A group of homeless people who have been living in tents arelooking for a place to set up camp as winter approachesin Regina.

"It will get pretty cold, I imagine. But once we find out a proper, safe location, then all these tents will get all winterized," Joseph Redwood told CBC Radio'sThe Morning Edition host Sheila Coles Tuesday morning.

Redwood has been part of a group tenting in various locations over the past month in the Queen City, including a lot on the 1800 block of Osler Street and Wascana Park.

The group's current location is a plot of land on Albert Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenue owned by the Cowessess First Nation.

The chief of the First Nation has asked the group to once again pack up and move on.

Redwood said there are still a few options for the group, which has a few tents and fire pit set up in their camp.

Redwood said the group hasan eye on a few empty lots in the city, but he admitted that some are owned by the city, and wouldn't be a place they could stay long term.

Redwood has been homeless since the beginning of October. He said his welfare was cut off as he worked a part-time job. Then he lost his job after he suffered an injury to his hand.

Although he admits he's not sure what will happen, Redwood said he isn't concerned about the cold months ahead.

"I'm not worried about it."

He said the group plans to use extra tarps and blankets, and raise their tents off the ground onto pallets to combat the cold.
