Former Saskatoon mayor Henry Dayday has stepped back from the mayoral race.

On Tuesday, 24 hours before the nomination deadline, the City of Saskatoon website listed the former mayor as having withdrawn from the mayor's race.

Dayday, 76, served as Saskatoon's mayor for 12 years from 1988 to 2000. Dayday could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.

The latest polls in the Saskatoon election show Dayday ranked in last place among mayoral candidates, polling only five per cent of the vote. Incumbent Don Atchison continues to be the front-runner with 29 per cent followed closely by city councillor Charlie Clark at 21 per cent.

Kelley Moore, who was the last of the four candidates to announce her intention to run for mayor captured 18 per cent in the latest poll. 22 per cent of people polled said they were undecided.

Wednesday is that last day for candidates to submit nomination papers for mayor or city councillor. The municipal election is on Oct. 26.
