Regina's Dustin Molleken makes MLB debut

After an up and down spring, a Saskatchewan-born pitcher's big break in the major leagues finally came Monday night with the Detroit Tigers.

Regina-product Dustin Molleken, 31, came in as a relief pitcher for the third and fourth innings as the Tigers visited the Cleveland Indians for the first of a three-game series.

Over two innings of work, Molleken allowed one run on three hits while striking out two batters and allowing one walk.

Saskatchewan baseball fans sent love to Molleken over Twitter.

Molleken officially joined the Tigers on June 20, when Detroit purchased his contract. However, the stint in the majors was short-lived as Molleken was sent back to the minors less than a week later.

Molleken spent 13 years in the minors before being called to join the Tigers. Molleken has also played in Japan for the the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters, and has competed for the Canadian national baseball team.
