Driving to Garth Brooks? Here's what you need to know

While the city is asking concert goers to use park and ride services, if you have to drive, motorists are being asked to take specific routes to the event.

City workers and police have their work cut out for them this week.

At one time, as many as 20,000 vehicles will be driving in and out of the SaskTel Centre parking lot for six Garth Brooks concerts.

While the city is asking concert goers to use park and ride services, if you have to drive, motorists are being asked to take specific routes to the event.

People living in southern and western neighbourhoods are asked to use Idylwyld Drive and take the Highway 16 exit.

People living in northern and eastern neighbourhoods are asked to use Wanuskewin Road (or Millar Avenue), then drive onto Marquis Drive.

"We're recommending that you leave early to provide extra time to get there," said Director of Transportation Angela Gardiner. "Consider carpooling with three or more people, or possibly take a bus."

Traffic will be restricted on Friday and Saturday night to accommodate vehicles leaving the first show. Starting at 8:30 p.m., left turns from Idylwyld Drive onto Marquis Drive will not be permitted.

Traffic on Idylwyld Drive will be directed onto 71st Street for access.

The city will also be lengthening traffic signals on those routes to make traffic flow a little bit easier.

Tow trucks will be on scene, along with the fire department, police officers and traffic signal staff.

To follow up to the moment information, the city will be tweeting information using the hashtag#GarthInSaskatoon
