A 36-year-old man has been arrested after smashing into apolice car Tuesday morning.

Just before 2 a.m. CST, a Saskatoon patrol officer spotted a Chevrolet Equinox that had been reported stolen. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, without success.

The SUV then drove out of the city toward Martensville, Sask., where it was tracked by the air support unit.

At one point, police say the man got out of the Equinox in a farmyard, stole a Honda Civic and kept driving.

The driver then got onto Highway 11, where he drove the wrong way down the southbound lane.

The chase ended after the driver smashed into a patrol car north of Warman, Sask.

The suspect was arrested and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The man was found to be in possession of 117 hydromorphone pills, 27 dilaudid pills and a small amount of methamphetamine. Officers were also able to find an airsoft handgun that the man allegedly threw out of the vehicle earlier in the chase.

The suspect is facing 12 charges. He is expected to make his first court appearance at Saskatoon Provincial Court on Tuesday afternoon.
