Saskatoon could soon have a newurban expressway. But would it make a morning commute quicker?

The city's transportation committee wants to reclassify College Drive as an urban expressway between the CP Rail tracks and city limits.

The goal is to improve access for neighbourhoods such as Erindale, Arbor Creek and Willow Grove, to College Drive.

Seven access points would be created to link those neighbourhoods to the expressway. But creating those access points will open up College Drive to more traffic.

The city estimates that the number of people living in the areacould soon exceed 73,000, which would mean more vehicles on the road.

An urban expressway would also lower the speed limit to 80 kilometers per hour.

If approved, the urban expressway project would be completed by the end of 2017.
