Council may changes rules to allow signature signature building

A developer with an ambitious plan for downtown Saskatoon may get the green light it needs today to move forward with a new signature high rise building.

North Prairie Developments Ltd. wants to build what may prove to be the tallest building in the province, reaching more than 100 metres into the sky.

First, itll need the permission of the City of Saskatoon. Thats because the current bylaw restricts the height of a building in the area to just 76 metres. The issue will come before city council later today and the recommendation is to approve the effort.

The developer, in fact has plans to build a total of three buildings in a stretch of 3rd Avenue South near22ndStreet East. The final goal is to have office space, residential space, street level retail opportunities and hundreds of parking spaces.

Phase one is already complete, and is occupied by mining companyBHPBilliton.Phase two, construction of the tall signature building likely wont begin until late 2015.
