When the new parking system was installed in Saskatoon, removing the old coin meters left cyclists scrambling for a place to lock up their rides.

The days of searching for the few remaining bicycle posts may be over.

The city is now working to install some 250 new bicycle parking posts downtown, in Riversdale and Broadway.

The new posts are mainly for bikes, but some will also offer seating.

Here's how the city explained the new system in a news release.

"Triangular steel frames have been added to the meter post for securing bikes. In a few locations, a bench seat and small table top will also be included. The goal of this project is to promote active transportation and to provide more attractive options for moving around our city."

The first units were installed this week.
