Celebrate Canada's 150th year with a variety of events in and around Saskatoon July 1.

Celebrate the country with music, food and fireworks

Saskatoon residents can celebrate Canada's 150th year with a variety events in and around the city July 1.

There are plenty of activities for people of all ages including food, entertainment and of course, fireworks.

Events in Saskatoon:

  • Optimist Canada Day Celebrations at Diefenbaker Park (8 a.m. until dusk),includinga buffet breakfast, ceremonies, marketplace, entertainment and food vendors.
  • Canada Day cruise on the Prairie Lily at 8:45 p.m.
  • Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, including music at the free stage, Bessborough Gardens, Amigos Cantina and the James Hotel.
  • Canada Day fireworks at Dundonald Park at 10 p.m. and at Diefenbaker Park at 10:30 p.m.

Events outside of Saskatoon:

  • Lion's Park in Warman: Pancake breakfast, cake, children's activities (8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m) and fireworks at 10:30 p.m.
  • Kinsmen Park in Martensville:Cake, entertainment, dance party and cinema under the stars (noon to 9:30 p.m.) and fireworks at dusk.
  • Prince Albert National Park:Pancake breakfast, parade, cake and outdoor activities.

What's open and what's closed July 1 and 3 in Saskatoon:

City Services:

  • City Hall will be closed.
  • Parking will be free on July 1 but will require payment on July 3.
  • Saskatoon public libraries (all locations) will be closed.
  • Saskatoon landfill will be open with regular hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Garbage and recycling collection will take place as scheduled.
  • Saskatoon Transit will be operating with Sunday/Holiday service on July 1, but will offerregular service on July 3.
  • Access Transit will be operating with regular service July 1 but will be operating with holiday service on July 3.

Recreation:

  • Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park and Zoo will be open during its regular hours of operation (zoo: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and park: 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.)
  • Holiday Park, Silverwood and Wildwood golf courses will all be open as usual.
  • PotashCorp Playland at Kinsmen Park will be open during its regular hours of operation from 10 a.m to 8 p.m.
  • George Ward, Lathey, Mayfair and Riversdale outdoor pools will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m on July 1 and will be open during regular hours on July 3.
  • Cosmo Civic Centre will be closed July 1, but open July 3.
  • The Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre, Shaw Centre and the Lakewood Civic Centre will be open from noon to 6 p.m. on July 1 but all fitness classes will be cancelled for the day.
  • The Lawson Civic Centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 1 but all fitness classes will be cancelled.
  • The Saskatoon Field House will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 1. Fitness classes and child minding are cancelled, except the Zumbaholiday class from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
  • Terry Fox Track (in the SaskTel Sports Centre) will be closed over the weekend but will reopen on July 3.
