Accused 4th Avenue shooter needs surgery on shoulder

A man charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting at a Saskatoon police officer using a homemade shotgun is still recovering from getting shot himself by police.

Michael Andrew Arcandappeared by video in Saskatoon provincial court today.

He told the judge that his next court appearance will depend on the outcome of upcoming surgery on his shoulder. Arcand said that he wasshot twice by police.

The shooting happened on the 200 block of 4th Avenue S. on the afternoon ofSept. 27,and resulted in a large police response, blocking off that area of downtown for many hours.

The defence said that disclosure from police has slowed setting a date for Arcand's bail hearing. The prosecutor said that providing disclosure has been complicated by an ongoing internal police investigation about what happened that afternoon.

Arcandis scheduled to return to court Monday.
