Twitter accuses Saskatchewan election of ugly politics

The Saskatchewan Party has released more controversial social media posts of Saskatchewan NDP candidates. Some are saying it means more NDP candidates should be questioned, while others say it is an example of ugly politics.

Thursday's release from the Saskatchewan Party containedposts made by Adam Duke, the NDP candidate for Humboldt-Watrous. The posts joke about rape and non-white people. The NDP said Duke apologized for the posts and that they were meant as "sarcastic."

One reads, "Not sure if this guy is tanned or brown skinned. Told me he is going to see his family. Didn't tell me if that family is alive or dead. #terrorist."

The word "pathetic" was used to both criticize the Facebook posts and to criticize the Saskatchewan Party for bringing them up. One tweet criticized "gotchas" politics.

A spokesperson for the Saskatchewan NDP says the party was aware of Duke's posts and obtained explanations for them.

The party says Duke was being sarcastic because he was frustrated about racial profiling in society.

The NDP says Duke apologized and the party's leader, Cam Broten, has accepted his apology.

Four candidates have been dropped by the NDP. Two of those candidates had social media posts raised by the Saskatchewan Party.
