Thunderstorms rumble through Saskatchewan's southwest

Another hot and humid day in Saskatchewan has generated some active weather.

At 8:30 p.m. CST, Environment Canada meteorologists said they were tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts and up to nickel size hail.

The storm moved into Saskatchewan from Montana.

"A large, fast moving severe thunderstorm is crossing the international border between Mankota and Rockglen," the weather office said in a statement. "Severe wind gusts above 90 km/h are likely with this storm."

Another storm, from Alberta, was noted in the Leader, Sask., area.

"Wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h have been reported from this thunderstorm in Alberta and loonie sized hail was reported in Mendham, Sask.," according to a weather note.

And there was more to come, the weather office said.

"A second thunderstorm back in Alberta will likely track through between Burstall and Leader giving more severe weather."

Environment Canada also noted conditions were good for the development of severe thunderstorms around Saskatoon.

Earlier in the day a weather watch was issued for the Regina area, as conditions were good for the development of thunderstorms. But that weather watch was ended late in the afternoon.
