Students pack the stands for Regina Pats' Hockey Day

It wasn't the usual crowd watching the Regina Pats play hockey on Monday.

About 3,200 Grade 4 to 8 students were in the stands at the Brandt Centre for Hockey Day as part of a hockey-based lesson plan.

The Prairie Valley School Division brought the kids out to explore how hockey relates to arts education and even health and math.

"We thank the Regina Pats and are pleased to be working with them to provide students the opportunity to explore curriculum through the sights and sounds of a hockey game," said Ben Grebinski, director of education for the school division, in a press release.

Some students were collecting data on ice quality and temperatures. The students will be analysing the data to see how ice quality affects players' reactions.

Todd Lumbard, president of the Regina Pats, said the team has a strong belief in education.

"To help students realize what they learn in the classroom can be applied and shown anywhere is a special moment for everyone involved in Hockey Day," he said.
